As my husband and I began planning our honeymoon, we felt an exciting sense of adventure. We both wanted to explore places we had never been before. Italy and Greece seemed like the perfect destinations for a honeymoon. Neither of us had experienced the enchanting canals of Venice or the stunning islands of Greece, so I dove into research to create an unforgettable journey. We traveled late August to mid-September to take advantage of the beginning of shoulder season. I crafted an itinerary that strikes the perfect balance between sightseeing and relaxation. This plan ensured we soaked in the beauty of our surroundings while also enjoying some well-deserved downtime.

Itinerary Highlights

  • Venice, Italy: Imagine gliding through the serene canals on a gondola, the gentle lapping of water as your guide shares tales of the city's rich history. St. Mark's Basilica, with its intricate mosaics, leaves you in awe, while the narrow, winding alleys invite you to explore hidden gems and quaint cafes, making every moment feel like a scene from a romantic film.

  • Verona, Italy: Picture yourself wandering through the streets of this enchanting city, where the spirit of Romeo and Juliet lingers. You can visit Juliet's balcony, feeling the romance in the air, and savor a local rissoto as you people watch at cafe, soaking in the local culture.

  • Polignano a Mare, Italy: Visualize standing on the cliffs overlooking the Adriatic Sea, where the turquoise waters crash against the rocky shoreline. You can enjoy a leisurely day at the beach, followed by a delightful meal of fresh seafood in a charming seaside restaurant, all while the sun sets in a blaze of colors.

  • Santorini, Greece: Envision yourself on the picturesque island of Santorini, where you can watch the breathtaking sunset in Oia, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink. Exploring the ancient ruins of Akrotiri connects you to the island's history, and indulging in local wines at a cliffside vineyard creates unforgettable memories.

  • Paros, Greece: Imagine relaxing on the sun-kissed beaches of Paros, where the golden sands meet crystal-clear waters. You can explore charming villages, enjoy traditional Greek cuisine, and perhaps even try your hand at snorkeling, all while soaking in the laid-back island atmosphere.

  • Athens, Greece: Picture yourself standing in front of the majestic Acropolis, feeling the weight of history surrounding you. As you wander through the bustling streets of Plaka, you can savor authentic Greek dishes and immerse yourself in the vibrant culture and rich heritage of this ancient city.

We made sure to include plenty of downtime in our itinerary, allowing us to unwind and savor each moment. Whether it was lounging on the beach in Paros or enjoying a leisurely dinner overlooking the canals in Venice, we wanted to return from our trip feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. This journey was not just about visiting new places; it was about creating memories together as we embarked on this new chapter of our lives.

This itinerary perfectly balances budget-friendly options with splurge-worthy experiences. From charming hotels to unforgettable excursions and delightful restaurants. Get ready to enjoy a mix of comfort and luxury that will make your trip truly special!

As I delved into the concept of being a middle traveler, I realized how much it resonated with my own experiences. This term was new to me too, but it perfectly encapsulates the journey many of us find ourselves on. If you feel a connection to this idea, I invite you to explore my blog post on what it means to be a Middle Traveler.

Italy: Venice, Verano & Polignano a Mare

Day 1: Travel Day to Venice, Italy

After I put the final touches on my reports, I slammed my laptop shut and exclaimed to my co-workers, "See you in two weeks!" The excitement bubbled inside me; it was Labor Day Weekend, and my husband and I had a flight to catch! I hurried home, quickly finished packing, and before I knew it, we were off to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport!

With no bags to check, we breezed through TSA and felt the thrill of our vacation begin at Delta Skyclub. We don’t always plan to get to the airport early enough to enjoy the lounge, but today was special—we couldn’t wait to kick off our Honeymoon! Plus, you never know who you might run into; today, it was Da Brat and her entourage, which added a fun twist to our adventure.

We savored a few glasses of champagne, munched on some snacks, and watched the storm that almost delayed our flight roll in. We booked an 8pm departure, hoping to sleep through the night and wake up ready to tackle the jet lag when we landed in our first stop: the enchanting city of Venice, Italy!

Tip: If you can, book an overnight flight and plan an activity for when you land so you can quickly adjust to the time change.

Day 2: Venice, Italy - Arrival Day

Upon arrival, we took a water taxi from the airport. Just follow the signs to Water Taxis within the airport. You'll find a staffed kiosk where you can inform them of your destination, and they will direct you to the appropriate boat.

Tip: We shared a Water Taxi from the airport with another couple, which helped reduce the cost. With all our excitement for the first glimpse of the canals, we took photos of them, and they took photos of us!

We arrived at our Airbnb shortly after noon, where we dropped off our bags and freshened up after our flight. Eager to try the local cuisine, we wandered around nearby until we found a café.

To truly immerse ourselves in the enchanting beauty of Venice, we pre-booked the Viator recommended tour, "Venice: The Hidden Canals on Electric Boats". It was a great way to see Venice the way it was meant to, on the canals. We were eager to see Venice from its iconic canals, away from the bustling crowds. The electric boat provided a serene and eco-friendly way to navigate the waterways, allowing us to appreciate the city’s charm without the noise of traditional motorboats. Each turn revealed picturesque scenes, from quaint bridges to vibrant local life, making us fall even more in love with Venice. Overall, this tour was a perfect blend of exploration and relaxation, giving us the chance to see Venice as it was meant to be seen—through its captivating canals.

For the first three nights in Venice, we had the pleasure of staying at the Views on the Rialto Bridge AirBnB Apartment. From the moment we arrived, it felt even more magical than the pictures, description, and reviews had promised. We truly had a wonderful time! The apartment was the perfect size for us—almost too big for just the two of us! We loved unwinding with a bottle of wine or indulging in gelato on the balcony. The view was simply breathtaking, making each moment feel special and unforgettable.

  • Tip: Below the building is a Burger King, which made an easy reference point for finding the location upon arrival. It is central to everything for walking but quiet once inside.

Day 3: Venice, Italy - The Ultimate Tourist Day!

On our first full day, we embarked on an unforgettable group tour titled "Venice in a Day." The excitement was palpable as we set out to explore some of the city's most iconic landmarks: Basilica San Marco, Doge's Palace, and a scenic gondola ride.

  • Tip: The tour starts before the city wakes up. Take advantage and stop at the Rialto Bridge on your way to the tour meet up location to take your photos without the crowds!

The tour began with an enchanting walking tour that led us to the Mercato di Rialto. As we strolled through the vibrant market, the sights and sounds of local vendors filled the air, creating an atmosphere that was both lively and inviting. Next, we wound our way through the charming streets of the city, eventually arriving at the historic Marco Polo's House. Standing there, I couldn't help but imagine the adventures of the great explorer.

After soaking in the history, it was time for our gondola ride. Gliding through the serene canals, I felt a sense of tranquility wash over me as we admired the stunning architecture from the water. Once our gondola ride concluded, we paused to enjoy a delicious lunch. Our guide was incredibly helpful, providing local recommendations that would allow us to savor the authentic flavors of the region. This advice was invaluable as we prepared for the final stops of our tour, eager to explore more of what this magical city had to offer.

  • Tip: Be mindful of portion sizes, especially with food and alcohol! We had lunch with Aperol Spritz, which left us quite tired for the afternoon portion of the tour which included walking under the scorching sun and visiting buildings without air conditioning.

The afternoon portion of our day began with an enchanting tour of Basilica San Marco. As I stepped inside this majestic church, I was immediately struck by its grandeur and rich history that unfolded over the centuries. Each intricate detail and shimmering mosaic seemed to whisper stories of the past, transporting me to a time when art and faith intertwined in profound ways. Walking through the hallowed halls, I couldn't help but feel a deep connection to the countless individuals who had walked these same paths, each leaving their mark on this iconic landmark. The beauty of the basilica was not just in its architecture but in the layers of history that surrounded me, making the experience truly unforgettable.

  • Tip: We visited in August and it was HOT! I wore a linen romper and packed a scarf and maxi skirt in my purse to cover my shoulders and legs.

Next, we made our way to the majestic Doge's Palace. The intricate architecture and rich history captivated us. Walking through the grand halls, we imagined the lives of the Doges and the political intrigue that once unfolded here. The view from the palace's windows overlooking the lagoon was simply stunning, and we took a moment to soak in the beauty of our surroundings. We passed through the Bridge of Sighs on our way to the New Prison. Highly recommend taking the time to tour the prison before the tour concludes.

This tour ended mid-afternoon, and honestly, we were pretty tired. We orginally planned to take a refresh at the apartment and then find a local place for dinner. Little did we know that our day was about to take an unexpected turn. As we settled in, we discovered that The Regata Storica, or Venice Historical Regatta, was happening right before our eyes! This annual event is celebrated on the first Sunday of September, featuring a historical water pageant and exciting boat racing competitions.

Our Airbnb balcony became our little oasis, offering breathtaking views of the Grand Canal. It was the ideal spot for us to immerse ourselves in The Regata Storica. We decided to indulge a bit and ordered a mouthwatering pizza paired with a couple of bottles of wine. As we sat there, savoring each bite and sip, the excitement of the Regatta unfolded right before our eyes. The colorful boats and the lively cheers from the crowd created a magical backdrop to our meal. This moment, filled with laughter and joy, truly transformed our time in this beautiful city into an unforgettable experience that we will cherish forever!

This unforgettable day was beautifully capped off with a delightful gelato, as the sun set over the enchanting Grand Canal. The vibrant colors of the sky mirrored the joy in my heart, making the moment feel even more special. Each scoop of gelato was a sweet reminder of the experiences shared and the laughter that filled the air, creating a perfect ending to a day I will cherish forever.

Day 4: Verona, Italy - Day Trip

What honeymoon to Italy would be complete without a visit to the enchanting City of Love? Verona, the charming city that inspired William Shakespeare's timeless tale of Romeo and Juliet, is a must-see destination for couples. If you’re looking to immerse yourselves in the romance and history of this beautiful city without making it your base for the trip, a day is just the right amount of time to explore its highlights.

Tip: Want more information on Verona, check out my blog post "How to Make the Most of One Day in Verona, Italy: A Complete Guide".

We set off on our adventure with a leisurely 15-20 minute stroll to Santa Lucia Station in Venice. The excitement was palpable as we anticipated our first train ride to Verona. After a little over an hour on the train, we felt the thrill of traveling through the picturesque Italian landscape. At the train station, we grabbed a quick breakfast to fuel our day, eager to make the most of our time in Verona.

As we arrived at Porta Nuova Station in Verona, the atmosphere buzzed with energy. We had another 15-20 minute walk ahead of us to reach the starting point of our tour. The anticipation of exploring the beautiful city filled us with excitement as we made our way to the tour location, where we planned to indulge in a delicious breakfast at a charming café just outside - don't skip the coffee, slow pace morning with the locals.

There's something incredibly special about exploring a city on a bike! It feels so authentically European, allowing me to experience the city like a local! We decided to book a small group tour through Viator: Highlights and Hidden Gems Verona Bike Tour. Once the entire group gathered, we were fitted for bikes and helmets, and I couldn't help but feel a rush of excitement as we took a quick test spin. I was ready to set off and see if I could catch a glimpse of Romeo or Juliet!

Our first stop was the magnificent Arena di Verona. Built in 30 AD, this open-air opera house is still in use today, and I was in awe of its grandeur. We only had a brief moment to admire the exterior, as going inside wasn't part of the tour. On the day we visited, they were setting up for an event that night, which added a layer of excitement. It was fascinating to witness modern technology being brought into such an ancient structure. It reminded me that while technology evolves, the essence of what brings us together—music—remains timeless.

Tip: If music is your passion, consider staying for a night in Verona to catch a concert. They do a summer series!

Next, we hopped on our bikes and followed the ancient paths of the former Roman Empire, making our way to the enchanting Piazza delle Erbe. As we pedaled past Porta Dosari, the ancient Roman gate dating back to the 1st century AD, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe. The beautiful historical buildings that surrounded us were adorned with stunning frescoes and intricate sculptures, creating a vibrant atmosphere in this lively open-air market.

Once back on our bikes, we set off towards Casa di Giulietta. This iconic temple of love, complete with Juliet's balcony and a bronze statue of Juliet herself, was a highlight of our day! Although the tour didn’t include entry tickets for the interior, we were perfectly content admiring the exterior. We had initially planned to return in the afternoon for a closer look, but seeing the outside was enough to check that box off our list. And of course, I couldn’t resist the tradition of touching the bronze breast of the Juliet statue, located in the courtyard of Juliet's House. It’s said that doing so brings good luck in love—who wouldn’t want a little extra luck in that department?

Tip: If you skip the tour, but want to visit Casa di Giulletta, skip the line by entering

through the shop on the left of the entrance! Don't forget to be polite to the shopkeepers and take a look through their shop.

Tip: We originally booked our return train for 9:45pm. We thought we would want to explore more after our bike tour and stay for dinner.

We made two quick stops that truly enriched our experience: Piazza dei Signori and Piazzale Castel San Pietro. We were greeted with breathtaking views of the hills surrounding Verona, the iconic Ponte Pietra, and the serene Adige River. It was the perfect moment to pause, capture some stunning photos, and enjoy a refreshing sip of water. As we prepared to tackle the steps ahead, the beauty of the landscape made every effort worth it!

We left our bikes at the base of Piazzale Castel San Pietro, ready to embark on our journey to the top. I won't sugarcoat it—the trek involved a lot of stairs! At one point, I could feel my no-show socks slipping down, which added an extra challenge to the climb. But let me tell you, the moment we reached the top, all the effort was instantly forgotten. The breathtaking views of Verona spread out before us were absolutely worth every step we took. It felt like we were on top of the world, soaking in the beauty of the entire city. The stairs down are much easier!

Back on our bikes, we pedaled through the charming streets of Verona, making our way to the Basilica di San Zeno Maggiore. Although we didn't venture inside the church, we embraced the opportunity to soak in the rich history of the city. As our tour came to a close, we returned our bikes, a sense of satisfaction washing over us, but our stomachs were definitely growling.

Our guide, sensing our hunger, recommended we try a local specialty: Risotto all'Amarone. This dish, made with the region's renowned red wine, Amarone, immediately piqued my interest. Although risotto isn't typically my go-to choice, the thought of it prepared with such a unique wine made my mouth water in anticipation. It felt like the perfect way to cap off our adventure in this beautiful city, with a spritz on the side!

We originally planned to stay in Verona through dinner, but once we ate lunch, we were ready to head back to Venice. We felt we had seen all we wanted and changed our train ticket to return. The trains run every hour or so, so no rush back to the train station.

This day was truly one of our favorite food experiences of the entire trip. Since the train station wasn't located near our AirBnB, we took the time on the train to research restaurants that would be along our walk back. That's when we stumbled upon Al Timon, a charming steakhouse that caught our attention. We arrived a bit early for the dinner menu, but we seized the opportunity to split a delightful bottle of wine, paired with local cheese and meats.

If you ever find yourself there, make sure to grab a table outside along the canal for sunset! We loved watching the locals come and go, soaking in the ambiance of what felt like an authentic Venetian neighborhood. It was a refreshing reminder of a different way of life, one that inspired us to embrace a slower pace and truly savor time spent with friends. For our main course, we decided to share the steak plate for two. When I say it was enormous, I mean it! We couldn't even finish it! The steak was undoubtedly one of the best I've ever had in my life. If I return to Venice, Al Timon will be at the top of my list to revisit!

Tip: If I could do it over again, I would have eaten at the steak house on a day with an earlier lunch! It's so much food!

Tip: Solo or female travelers, Venice is a very safe city. I wouldn't have felt unsafe if walking alone at night. The city is so active, there were people around every corner.

Day 5: Venice, Italy with Day Trip to Burano

As I mentioned, my husband is more of a go-with-the-flow kind of guy, never one to have every second meticulously planned out. This particular day was his built-in "call an audible" moment. We had two main things on our agenda: changing lodging locations and enjoying a nice dinner to cap off our time in Venice.

We savored our last meal on the balcony as the city began to wake up around us. With a spread of delightful bakery items, we relished the slower morning pace, unburdened by a strict schedule—our only obligation being to check out of our AirBnB.

One of my bucket list hotels was the Gritti Palace, a stunning Marriott hotel right on the Grand Canal. Leading up to the trip, it was the place I was most excited about staying at! We had saved our Marriott points for this one-night experience, and I couldn't wait to indulge in the luxury it promised.

Tip: While the hotel itself is absolutely wonderful, I had expected more from the staff at a 5-star establishment. Unfortunately, I found them to be a bit rude and not as welcoming as I had hoped. Skip the hotel and just enjoy a dinner reservation here.

Over breakfast, my husband and I discussed what he would want to do this day. We had seen most of the highlights on our tour and walked aimlessly after dinner the night before. I told him about the surrounding islands - Murano, known for glass blowing, and Burano, known for handmade lace. While I've heard great things about both, we decided to do Burano only. We wanted to allow us enough time to come back and rest before our dinner.

After checking in at The Gritti Palace, we eagerly set off in a water taxi for Burano. The thrill of gliding across the water, the water calm near the Grand Canal but it did get bumpier for the ~30 minute ride to the . Our taxi captain, with a friendly smile, urged us to simply go and wander. As we arrived at Burano, we were greeted by a vibrant tapestry of colors that adorned the island. Most of the shops and restaurants were to our left, but we decided to venture right, drawn to the quieter side of the island. This choice allowed us to soak in the serene beauty and charm of Burano at our own pace. Strolling along the picturesque canals, we marveled at the brightly painted houses that made this place one of the top 10 most colorful cities in the world. Each turn revealed a new hue, a new scene, and a new photo opportunity. We took our time, savoring the ambiance and the delightful little details that made Burano so unique. Eventually, we made our way back toward the bustling area, ready to indulge in a well-deserved lunch.

Tip: Use Bar da Pippo as your landmark for directions back to the main pick up place for the island.

Tip: Most water taxis prefer cash. When ordering a taxi, specify that you will be paying with a card and you shouldn't run into any issues.

We absolutely adored the vibrant, colorful houses that lined the streets. Each one seemed to tell its own story, and we couldn't resist taking the time for an Instagram-worthy photoshoot. It felt like we were in a dream as we wandered through the charming alleys, randomly picking paths to explore. After an hour of delightful wandering, we made our way back to the shops and restaurants, our hearts full of joy and our cameras filled with memories.

We ended up at In Riva Bistro, drawn in by its lovely location right on the water. It was the perfect spot to cool down after our adventure. The spritz and beer were refreshing, but the star of the show was definitely the pasta! Each bite was a taste of heaven. The staff made our experience even better with their warmth and welcoming smiles, making us feel right at home.

Tip: It is very hot on the highland, little to no breeze unless you are on the coastline. Don't forget to take your hat! I was hesitant but it would have been a very long day without it!

After lunch, we strolled through the charming shops, each one brimming with unique treasures. One of my favorite things to hunt for during a trip is a beautiful watercolor or piece of artwork that I can incorporate into our home decor. There's something special about selecting a piece that captures the essence of the place I've visited. Of course, I also had my heart set on finding a delicate lace item. The intricate patterns and textures always seem to add a touch of elegance to any space. With so many enticing shop options, I made sure to take my time, exploring each one and soaking in the atmosphere. It was a delightful challenge to sift through the myriad of choices and finally pick my favorite treasures to take home!

Tip: There are tour groups you can do both Murano and Burano, or take the water bus between. We didn't want to be on a schedule so we elected for the water taxi, which took coordination with the hotel for pick up. We gave them 45 minutes notice of being ready to leave. The water taxi option is more expensive, ~$100 euro per way.

The highlight of our day was undoubtedly dinner at Club del Doge. This iconic Venetian restaurant truly exceeded our expectations in every way! We chose to sit outside, allowing us to soak in the breathtaking views of the Grand Canal one last time before our departure from Venice the next day. As we savored each dish, it became clear that this was one of our favorite dinners of the trip. The food was nothing short of excellent, and what made the experience even more special was the staff. They went above and beyond to ensure our last night in this enchanting city was nothing less than magical. Their warmth and attentiveness made us feel like cherished guests, and we left with our hearts full and memories to last a lifetime.

Tip: We didn't plan it, nor were we aware until we arrived, but it was the Venice Film Festival. A great opportunity to watch for celebrities if that is your thing!

Day 6: Travel Day to Polignano a Mare, Italy

After four busy tourist days, we were craving a slower pace! When planning our trip, we both knew we wanted to find a beautiful beach where we could truly relax together. So, we took an early afternoon flight from Venice to Bari. The quick RyanAir flight had us on the stunning Italian coast in just about an hour!

To make our arrival seamless, we pre-booked our car service from the airport to our apartment rental through Welcome Pick Ups. When we arrived at Finisterre Casa di Mare, it felt like we had stepped into a fairytale! This idyllic location was nestled in Old Town, perfectly situated right above the famous Lama Monachile Beach.

We chose Polignano a Mare over the more popular Positano to escape the crowds, seeking a more intimate experience. One of the main reasons we fell in love with this charming town was the bucket list restaurant we had our hearts set on, Grotta Palazzese Hotel and Restaurant. I stumbled upon it during my research and was instantly captivated by the idea of this being our splurge dinner for the trip. Who wouldn't dream of having dinner in a cave? The thought of dining in such a unique setting was simply irresistible!

As we entered Old Town through the historic arches of Arco Marchesale, I felt a wave of excitement wash over me. Once we arrived at our apartment, we were greeted by stunning views of Lama Monachile Beach from the balcony. After unpacking and turning on the air conditioner, we set off to explore the enchanting streets of Old Town. We wandered through narrow alleys and stumbled upon breathtaking outlooks that showcased the azure waters of the Adriatic Sea.

Taking our time, we stopped for drinks and discovered a delightful shop filled with local snacks and wine to bring back to our cozy apartment. For dinner, we chose L'Archibugio. There was a brief wait for a table for two, but the wonderful staff made it all worthwhile by offering us a glass of wine while we waited. It was the perfect start to what would be an unforgettable evening.

Day 7: Polignano a Mare, Italy

Today was another day intentionally left in our itinerary with no specific plans, allowing us to fully embrace the art of relaxation. We started our morning by indulging in a delightful room service breakfast, savoring every bite as we lounged in our cozy surroundings. One of the highlights of our stay was the bakery items from a local café for room service. They were so delicious that we found ourselves ordering in each morning during our time in Polignano a Mare. The aroma of freshly baked goods filled the air, and each pastry was a little piece of heaven that made our mornings truly special.

We walked down to Lama Monachile Beach, a hidden gem nestled between two towering cliffs. The pebbly shore fills up quickly, but the atmosphere is friendly, and everyone graciously makes room for newcomers. We found a cozy spot near the rocks and settled in. Before heading to the beach, we stopped to buy vibrant Turkish towels, which added a splash of color to our day. I lost myself in my book while soaking in the stunning scenes around us. The energy was infectious; people were leaping off the cliffs, snorkeling in the clear waters, and simply enjoying the sun. One delightful surprise was a man wandering the beach selling refreshing beverages. It was definitely worth every penny! Most beachgoers wore water shoes, and my husband was kind enough to head back to the store to pick some up for us. The pebbles leading into the water were deceptively slippery! We swam, frolicked, and relished every moment together. We had planned to spend the entire day here, soaking up the sun and the joy of being by the sea, until it was time to get ready for dinner.

Tip: Pack water shoes with a hard bottom and a turkish towel.

While my husband stepped out to grab us lunch, an unexpected mishap occurred—he slipped and hurt his toe. It was painful enough and a deep enough cut that he didn’t want to get back into the water. With a bit of disappointment, we decided to call it a day and enjoy our sandwiches in the comfort of the apartment.

Tip: In fairness, I almost slipped several times too. Make sure your sandals will grip the smooth cobblestone, or step over it as much as possible!

We settled on the balcony, sipping our wine and soaking in the breathtaking views. The picturesque scenery of Polignano a Mare was the perfect backdrop for a relaxing afternoon. We spent the hours playing cards, listening to music and sharing laughs, all while being mindful of our wine consumption—after all, we didn’t want to lose track of time! Well, we thought we were being mindful...

Just as I was getting comfortable, my phone dinged with a reminder for dinner in 30 minutes at Grotta Palazzese Hotel and Restaurant. We quickly scrambled to get ready for the culinary experience that had drawn us to this beautiful town in the first place. Excitement bubbled up as we prepared for the evening ahead, eager to savor the local flavors and create more unforgettable memories together.

Walking to dinner, we were filled with excitement as we descended the stairs to the restaurant. It felt surreal, and we couldn't help but pinch ourselves—this was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience! The breathtaking view left us in awe.

The food was nothing short of incredible, and we indulged in wines we typically wouldn't splurge on. The atmosphere was elevated by a talented gentleman playing the saxophone, adding a magical touch to our evening. We made our reservation at a time to enjoy the ambiance during daylight, at sunset, and into the nighttime. Each moment was more enchanting than the last.

For more details on our dining experience and how our originally budgeted dinner quickly increased by 100+%, check out my blog post, Is Grotta Palazzese Worth the Hype? A Candid Review of the Famous Cave Restaurant.

Day 8: Polignano a Mare, Italy - Exploring from the Water

We really savored a slower start to the day, allowing ourselves to sleep in a bit longer than usual. It felt wonderful to order delivery from our favorite cafe and take our time in the morning. Sipping our coffee and enjoying breakfast on the balcony was the perfect way to ease into the day, soaking in the fresh air and sunshine as we gradually got ourselves ready.

As the afternoon approached, excitement bubbled up inside us for our planned boat tour to explore the stunning caves in the area! We had booked a private tour through Get Your Guide: Polignano a Mare: Boat Cave Tour with Aperitif. I chose this tour specifically because they offered a convenient add-on for pick-up and drop-off, making everything so much easier. With my beach bag packed, towel in hand, and sunscreen ready, I set off to the pick-up location, anticipation building for the adventure ahead!

Tip: Old Town does not allow vehicles. There are two pick up locations car services will utilze. The first is outside of the Arco Marchesale near the roundabout. The second is across the bridge (short walk).

The tour began at the marina, and I could feel the excitement bubbling inside me as we hopped on the boat. After a quick safety briefing from the captain, we were off, the wind in our hair and the sun warming our skin. The boat glided along the coastline, taking us from the marina to the stunning Lama Monachile Beach. We marveled at the breathtaking views, especially as we approached the Grotta Palazzese restaurant, nestled within the very cave we ate in the night before. Continuing up the coast, we explored more caves and the rugged coastline, each moment feeling like a postcard come to life.

One of the highlights was when we stopped to jump off the boat and swim! The water was a bit rough that day, so after some deliberation, we decided to keep going and explore more caves instead of extending the swim time. It turned out to be a fantastic choice, especially when we settled down for our apéritif. The cheese, fresh tomatoes, and wine paired perfectly with the warm sun, making it a delightful experience.

After a long day soaking up the sun, we were feeling a bit tired and just wanted to relax together. My husband kindly went to pick up a pizza while I set the mood on the balcony. We enjoyed the delicious pizza with the leftover wine from our first day, creating a cozy atmosphere. As the sun set, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink, I couldn't help but think how perfect it was—pizza, wine, and each other. It truly was the perfect last night in Polignano.

Day 9: Travel Day from Polignano a Mare, Italy to Santorini, Greece

We got ready and packed our bags, filled with anticipation for our next adventure in Greece! The excitement was palpable as we hopped into the car for the 45-minute ride to the airport. The chatter about what we would do and see in Santorini made the drive feel like just a moment. Once we arrived, we checked in for our RyanAir flight, the first step toward our dream destination. We deliberately chose a noon-ish flight, wanting to savor the morning without feeling rushed. This way, we could enjoy a leisurely start and still make it to our hotel without a hitch. The thought of arriving in Santorini, with its stunning views and vibrant culture, made every moment of preparation worth it!

Tip: The beach stays busy! We went down early before our car arrived to go the airport. We took photos on the beach to capture the cliffs surrounding us!

After a 2ish hour flight from Bari Airport to Santorini, Greece, we finally landed and were filled with excitement. As we made our way through the airport, we quickly found our driver, organized by our hotel, who was waiting for us with a smile and an air-conditioned car. It felt like a warm welcome to this beautiful island! Our driver was not just a transportation service; he became our first guide to Santorini. He shared local recommendations and pointed out areas of interest along the way, making the drive to our hotel feel like an introduction to the island’s charm and beauty.

When I planned this trip, I was most excited about our hotel. I had envisioned a quintessential Santorini experience without the crowds and feeling rushed. As we arrived, I realized it was even better than I had dreamed. The stunning views and serene atmosphere took my breath away, and I knew this was going to be a memorable stay. This hotel wasn’t just a place to stay; it became a cherished part of our Santorini experience. I found myself lost in the moment, grateful for the beauty and peace that enveloped me. I knew that these memories would stay with me long after I returned home.

Chic Hotel Santorini is one of, if not my favorite hotel I have ever stayed at. I can’t express enough how amazing this place is. We decided to treat ourselves and make this our splurge hotel for the trip. After much deliberation, we booked the Executive Suite with Outdoor Hot Tub and Caldera View. I went back and forth between this room and another option, with the price holding me back at times. However, I can confidently say it was worth every single penny. Each morning, we would wake up to the sun rising over the caldera, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink. I spent my days lounging by the infinity pool, sipping on local wines, and soaking in the breathtaking vistas that surrounded me. Reasons we loved it:

  • The staff was wonderful, always attentive and friendly.

  • The location was a dream, perfectly situated to explore the beauty of Santorini.

  • The views were straight out of a postcard, breathtaking at every hour of the day.

  • The executive suite truly elevated our experience, making our time in Santorini unforgettable.

Tip: This is a slower pace village on the island called Firostefani. It was perfect for us. If you prefer more activity and nightlife consider staying closer to Oia or Fira,

After checking in, Jake walked to get us a gyro, olives and wine. The hotel graiciously provided a bottle of wine and you could purchase beer as well. We changed into our swimwear and spent the afternoon moving between the lounger, pool and hottub. We played cards, sipped wine, and enjoyed the caledra views while the sunset over Oia.

Greece: Santorini, Paros & Athens

Day 10: Santorini, Greece - Exploring the Island

Imagine waking up each morning to the gentle sound of waves lapping against the cliffs, the sun casting a warm glow over the caldera of Santorini. As you step onto your private balcony, the breathtaking view unfolds before you, a stunning panorama that feels like a painting come to life.

Each day at Chic Hotel Santorini began with this delightful ritual. The day before, we would complete our breakfast order form, carefully selecting our breakfast preferences. Would it be a traditional Greek breakfast, rich with flavors of feta, olives, and fresh tomatoes? Or perhaps a selection of other delectable items to suit our cravings?

When breakfast arrived, it was not just a meal; it was an experience. The aroma of freshly baked bread mingled with the scent of ripe fruits, while the vibrant colors of the dishes made our table a feast for the eyes. Sipping on rich Greek coffee while gazing at the azure sea below was a moment of pure bliss. Each bite was a reminder of the beauty surrounding us, making every morning at Chic Hotel Santorini truly unforgettable.

We woke up early, filled with excitement for our private tour of Santorini, which we had booked through Viator. The 4-5 hour Santorini Private Instagram Tour turned out to be absolutely perfect for us! Our guide was incredible, tailoring the tour to our specific interests and preferences. Before we set off, we had a quick chat to review our priorities, ensuring that we would see all the spots we were most eager to explore. What impressed us the most was how our guide timed our route to avoid the busy areas, allowing us to enjoy each location without the crowds.

We were picked up directly from our hotel, and the adventure began! During the tour, we visited all the high points of the island: Oia, Firostefani, Red Beach, Akrotiri, Pyrgos, and Santo Wines. It was amazing to experience the breathtaking beauty of Santorini, seeing everything from one end of the island to the other, and everything in between! Each stop was a new opportunity for stunning photos and unforgettable memories filled with the island's history.

Since we found ourselves staying in Firostefani, we began our tour right here. It was an incredible experience as we delved into the fascinating history of the caldera. We spent time chatting with the locals, gaining insights into their daily lives and the vibrant culture that surrounds us.

One of the highlights was exploring the beautiful Greek Orthodox churches scattered throughout the neighborhoods. This was the perfect opportunity for us to capture stunning photos of the iconic blue-roofed churches that the island is famous for. Each click of the camera felt like a moment frozen in time, reflecting the charm and beauty of Firostefani.

Oia offered the Instagram-worthy views that Santorini is known for, and it felt like stepping into a postcard. As we wandered through the narrow, charming paths, I couldn't help but admire the blue-domed chapels and the traditional white-washed houses nestled in the rock. Each corner we turned revealed a new breathtaking scene that felt almost too beautiful to capture.

Our tour guide was exceptional; he knew exactly where to take us to avoid the crowds, ensuring we could enjoy our photos without distractions. His enthusiasm was infectious, and he was wonderful at capturing our moments at every stop. It felt like he was part of our adventure, perfectly timing our departure from the village just as the crowds began to swell. This thoughtful planning allowed us to truly savor the magic of Oia, making the experience even more memorable.

Tip: Take his recommendations! Those were some of my most favorite photos of the entire trip!

We headed to Red Beach, which is approximately a 30-minute journey rich in the island's history. I was surprised by how red/black the island is when not along the coast. Makes sense with the volcanic activity, but I wasn't expecting it. Situated on the island's southern side, Red Beach is distinctive due to its red hue from the volcanic terrain! Instead of going down to the beach, you take a short walk to enjoy the view from above.

Tip: It is very windy - leave your hat in the car! Everyone up there is taking photos, ask someone to take yours!

Akrotiri, located on the south end of the island, has a special charm that captivated us during our visit. One of the highlights was discovering one of the oldest lighthouses in Greece, built in 1892. We took a moment to soak in the breathtaking view of the caldera, which was even more stunning with the sailboats dotting the vibrant blue Aegean waters. Watching the cruise ships come and go added to the lively atmosphere. We felt a sense of relief not to be in Oia, where the crowds were undoubtedly overwhelming at this point in the day. Instead, we enjoyed the peacefulness of Akrotiri, making our experience all the more memorable.

On our way to Prophet Elias Monastery, we passed by Santos Wines and Pyrgos. Unfortunately, Santos Wines was closed due to our early morning tour departure, but I couldn't help but think how wonderful it must be to experience their offerings! Pyrgos, the former capital of the island, captivated us with its rich history as we made our way up to the monastery.

As we approached the Monastery, we noticed several tour buses ahead of us. Given that it was a Sunday, we decided to keep moving rather than join the crowd. On our drive back down, we stopped to soak in the breathtaking views of the island. From that vantage point, we could see so much—vineyards stretching across the landscape, dotted with charming blue-domed churches. It was a stunning reminder of the island's beauty and its past, especially as we learned about how life here was before cars became common.

While it is a small island, the influx of tourists certainly contributes to the traffic congestion. Our journey back to the hotel in the middle of the island took about 45 minutes, and by the time we arrived, we had worked up quite the appetite! As we strolled from the drop-off point to our hotel, we spotted Onar Restaurant and Bar right at the top of the stairs leading down to our hotel. It was convenient, so we decided to stop in, not realizing just how much we would come to adore this place. We ended up returning several more times for both lunch and dinner! The food, the friendly staff, the wine, and the breathtaking views created such a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

By mid-afternoon, we were stuffed from our lunch and couldn't even think about how it would be time to go to our dinner reservation in Oia. We weren't too keen on diving back into the crowds, so we made the spontaneous decision to skip our reservation. Instead, we opted to enjoy our beautiful balcony, hot tub, and day bed. We spent the afternoon soaking up the sun and cherishing each other's company. As the day wound down, we booked a late dinner reservation at Onar. The staff was genuinely surprised to see us back so soon, and we couldn't help but smile at how quickly this place had felt like a second home.

Day 11: Santorini, Greece

For our final day in Santorini, we decided to keep our itinerary open. We wanted to leave room for spontaneous recommendations or perhaps an exciting excursion, but as the morning sun streamed through our window, we felt a different calling. When I turned to my husband, I expressed our shared sentiment perfectly: "I don't want to do anything but soak up the view in my bathing suit and read my book!"

With that, we embraced the idea of a leisurely day, free from plans and full of relaxation. The breathtaking views of the caldera and the sparkling Aegean Sea were all we needed to feel content. We spent our time lounging, savoring the moment, and indulging in the simple pleasure of doing absolutely nothing.

We began our day with a delightful breakfast on our balcony, surrounded by the stunning views of white buildings, blue roofs, and the breathtaking caldera. The meal was nothing short of incredible, setting the perfect tone for the day ahead.

The wonderful staff organized an in-room massage, which was such a treat! My husband, not quite a fan of massages, took that time to research nearby restaurants for lunch. After my massage, I felt so relaxed that the thought of going anywhere seemed daunting! In a sweet gesture of kindness, my husband offered to go pick up lunch for us instead. It was such a thoughtful way to ensure that I could continue to enjoy the tranquility of our beautiful surroundings while still indulging in a delicious meal.

We spent the afternoon basking in the warm sun, enjoying the soothing waters of the pool, and unwinding in the hot tub. It was the ideal way to relax and soak in the beauty of our surroundings. Can you guess where we had dinner? That's right, we returned to Onar! The ambiance, the flavors, and the memories we created there made it the perfect choice for our last evening in Santorini. It truly was the perfect last day in Santorini for us, filled with joy and unforgettable moments!

Day 11: Travel Day from Santorini, Greece to Paros, Greece

When I began my research on Greek Islands, I turned to friends and coworkers for their insights and experiences. The island that kept coming up was Paros. Many of them shared heartfelt recommendations, often expressing a sentiment that resonated with me: they wished they had skipped Mykonos and spent more time savoring the beauty of Paros. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and I couldn't help but take their advice to heart. As I delved deeper into what Paros had to offer, I realized they were absolutely right! The charm and allure of this island captivated me, and I found myself eagerly anticipating my visit.

The stories I heard painted a vivid picture of picturesque landscapes, serene beaches, and a vibrant local culture. It was clear that Paros offered a unique experience that was different from the bustling nightlife of Mykonos. I couldn't wait to explore its charming villages, indulge in delicious local cuisine, and immerse myself in the island's rich history. The more I learned, the more I understood why my friends had fallen in love with Paros, and I knew I was in for an unforgettable adventure.

As we indulged in our last breakfast at Chic Hotel Santorini, I couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness. The stunning views of the caldera, the warm sun kissing our skin, and the delightful flavors of the local cuisine made this moment truly special. I knew I was going to miss this beautiful place and the memories we created here.

With our bags packed and our hearts a little heavy, we set off for the port. A mix of excitement and nerves bubbled within me. I had been on a few ferries before, but always as part of a larger group, where I had little reason to pay attention to the logistics. This time, it was just us, and the uncertainty of what lay ahead made my stomach flutter. Would we find our ferry easily? Would we be able to navigate the crowds? As we approached the port, I took a deep breath, ready to embrace whatever adventure awaited us.

Tip: The hotel will organize transportation upon request. We found this very helpful, one less thing to worry about!

We shouldn't have been nervous! As long as you have your ticket and are on time, there is nothing to worry about. We booked our ferry ticket through Ferry Hopper, which made the whole process so much easier. When reviewing our ferry options, we decided to go with SeaJets. It seemed like the best choice for our journey. We arrived at the terminal 30 minutes before our ferry was scheduled to depart, which gave us plenty of time to breathe and enjoy the moment.

Before boarding, we took a quick detour to grab some waters and a snack for our one hour and 30 minute trip to Paros. It felt good to have everything we needed as we followed others onto the ferry, navigating our way to our seats and settling in for the ride. The excitement was palpable, and soon we were on our way, ready to explore a new destination!

Tip: We didn't splurge for the upgrades on the ferry. I don't think it is necessary unless that is your preference.

We decided to use Welcome Pick Ups to prebook our car service from the port to our hotel, and it turned out to be a great choice. Initially, we considered renting a car, but we realized that during our stay, we would likely be enjoying some drinks. This made us think twice about the rental option.

When we arrived at the port, it was bustling with activity. There were so many pedestrians navigating their way through, along with a flurry of cars. It was a bit overwhelming, but we reminded ourselves to be patient. Our driver was delayed in reaching us due to the heavy traffic, but he certainly made up for it once he arrived. Not only did he provide us with a comfortable ride, but he also shared some fantastic recommendations for local attractions and dining options. His insights truly enhanced our trip, making our experience even more memorable!

Tip: Download the app for Welcome Pick Ups, they make it super easy to plan. Bonus, you pay on your credit card through the app so you don't have to have cash!

After a 20-30 minute ride to the other side of the island, we finally arrived in Náousa. This charming part of the island instantly captivated us with its beauty. We checked into the delightful Villa Isabella, which became our wonderful base for the next three days. What more could we dream of? The villa boasted a panoramic view of the sea, and it was just a short walk to the center of Náousa. To top it all off, it was run by the sweetest mother and daughter duo, who made us feel right at home.

We dropped our bags and eagerly made our way down the hill, ready to explore and find a cozy spot for lunch. As we walked through the narrow paths, we couldn't help but admire the vibrant blooming flowers that surrounded us, their colors brightening our spirits. After a delightful stroll, we settled in for an afternoon spritz by the water, savoring the local fish of the day. The flavors danced on our tongues, perfectly complementing the stunning view. Once we finished our meal, we changed into our bathing suits, grabbed our towels, and made our way to Piperi Beach for a lovely afternoon! The sun kissed our skin as we soaked in the beauty of the beach, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

For dinner, we strolled along the waterfront, taking our time to peruse the various menus displayed outside each restaurant. The gentle sound of the waves and the soft glow of the setting sun made the atmosphere feel magical. Over the next few days, we made it a point to try each place we had admired that first evening, savoring every bite and enjoying the unique flavors each spot had to offer.

Tonight, we settled on a delightful bottle of local wine paired with the fish of the day, perfectly fresh and cooked to perfection. The combination was exquisite, and we couldn't help but share our thoughts on the meal, laughing and reminiscing about our favorite memories from earlier in the trip.

After dinner, we wandered through the charming streets of the city, hand in hand, soaking in the sights and sounds around us. The laughter and conversations flowed easily as we explored together, creating memories that I knew we would cherish for years to come.

Day 12: Paros, Greece

We woke up feeling refreshed and ready for a full day of adventure! After enjoying a quick breakfast at our cozy apartment, we hopped into our Welcome Pick Up, buzzing with anticipation as we headed to the marina for our private tour.

The Discover Hidden Gems around Paros | Private Boat Tour was truly the highlight of our entire trip, and that's saying a lot considering all the wonderful experiences we had. I often find myself reliving that magical day, dreaming of returning to those stunning shores and hidden coves one day!

Tip: Do the private tour! We almost booked a group tour instead to save some money, but I am so glad we didn't change our minds. It is one of our most cherished we have had together!

Our amazing experience began with a brief safety briefing that set the tone for the day ahead. With excitement bubbling, we set off into the open water, the gentle waves lapping against our boat as we admired the stunning shoreline stretching out before us.

Our first stop was the enchanting island of Despotiko. As we anchored, we couldn't wait to dive into the crystal-clear waters. We swam, snorkeled, and even took our underwater phone case for a spin, capturing memories that would last a lifetime. Our captain, with a wealth of knowledge, shared fascinating stories about the history of the town, making our experience even richer. As we soaked in the beauty around us, we sipped our first glasses of wine and enjoyed a light snack, feeling truly immersed in the moment.

Next, we set sail towards Antiparos, and along the way, we made a memorable stop at the island of Koas, specifically at the renowned Blue Lagoon. This spot quickly became our favorite of the entire day!

We could have easily spent hours anchored there, soaking in the beauty around us. The crystal blue water of the Aegean Sea was the clearest I had ever seen, a mesmerizing shade that seemed to invite us in. We eagerly donned our snorkeling gear, diving into the refreshing embrace of the sea, discovering vibrant marine life beneath the surface. Swimming and jumping from the boat brought out our inner children, laughter echoing across the water. As we played our favorite tunes over the boat speakers, we watched fellow tourists revel in the same joy, sharing smiles and creating memories together in this little slice of paradise. It was a moment that felt timeless, one that I will cherish forever.

Tip: Once our legs were tired from treading water, we donned the life vests so we could float and continue our carefree day drinking!

We were starting to feel the familiar pangs of hunger for lunch, which meant it was time to pull up anchor and set off for Antiparos! This charming island had been highly recommended by friends, and I was excited to see what it had to offer. We found a lovely restaurant right along the water's edge. The ambiance was perfect, with the gentle sound of waves lapping against the shore. One thing that truly captured my heart was the cats wandering around the island, adding a touch of whimsy to our surroundings.

After a leisurely lunch, we treated ourselves to some delicious gelato. It was the perfect way to cool off and savor the moment. With our bellies full and spirits high, we were ready to hit the waters again, eager for more adventures to come!

Molos Beach was truly a dream come true! We anchored in a spot where the water was shallow enough for us to stand and enjoy the gentle waves. It was the perfect opportunity to explore the beach, soak in the sun, and take refreshing swims. As we made our way back to the marina, we couldn't resist stopping for one last swim at the stunning Blue Lagoon, where we also finished off the rest of our adult beverages, laughing and reminiscing about the day.

It was a perfect day spent island hopping and savoring every moment together. Once we returned to the marina, we decided to unwind with a glass of wine at a nearby restaurant while we waited for our car pick-up—of course, arranged through Welcome Pick Ups. The entire experience felt magical, and it was a day I will cherish forever.

Day 13: Paros, Greece

As you can imagine, we were completely worn out after our incredible boat day! The sun, the waves, and the laughter had taken it all out of us. We felt the bittersweet weight of our honeymoon coming to an end, knowing that soon we would be headed back home.

In those final moments, we decided to embrace every second of an unplanned day. We took the opportunity to sleep in, savoring the comfort of our cozy bed a little longer than usual. After finally getting up, we wandered the charming streets, allowing ourselves to get lost in the beauty around us. Every turn brought a new discovery, and we stopped whenever something caught our eye—whether it was a quaint café, a local shop or an artist capturing the scene. After exploring, we spent a few hours back at Piperi Beach, soaking in the sun and the serene atmosphere. The gentle sound of the waves lapping against the shore felt like a perfect farewell to our dreamy getaway.

We sat down for dinner along the waterfront, the gentle sound of the waves creating a soothing backdrop to our meal. After dinner, we indulged in one last gelato, the creamy sweetness melting in our mouths and adding to the sweetness of the moment. Each spoonful was a reminder of the love we share, a delicious pause in our evening that allowed us to reflect on the memories we were creating together.

With the sun setting behind us, casting a golden glow over the water, we realized how lucky we were. Each moment felt significant, a cherished chapter in our story that I would hold close to my heart.

Day 14: Travel Day from Paros, Greece to Athens, Greece

It was a bittersweet moment as we prepared to say goodbye to the enchanting Greek Islands. The memories of sun-soaked days and tranquil beaches lingered in our minds, but it was time to embrace the vibrant energy of the city.

After checking out, we made our way back to the port, the salty breeze still clinging to our skin. The anticipation of our 3.5-hour ferry ride to Athens filled the air. As we settled into our seats, I couldn't help but reflect on the serene beauty we were leaving behind. The calming, azure waters and golden sands felt like a distant dream as we were quickly ushered back to the hustle and bustle of city life.

Athens awaited us with its rich history and vibrant streets, promising a new adventure. While the peaceful islands would always hold a special place in my heart, I was ready to dive into the lively rhythm of the capital.

We pre-scheduled our pick-up from the port, and as we stepped off the boat, we quickly spotted our driver waiting for us. During our time on the islands, we had chatted with various drivers who all warned us about the traffic. They weren’t kidding! What should have been a quick 30-minute drive to our hotel turned into an hour-long journey, filled with the hustle and bustle of Athens.

Our last splurge of the trip was a stay at The King George, nestled right in the heart of Athens. We decided to use the last of our Marriott points, and we couldn't have been more thrilled with the luxury of the hotel. Honestly, it quickly became my favorite Marriott hotel that I’ve ever stayed at. After checking in, we made our way to our room, excited to unpack and settle in.

With our bags finally put away, we were eager to find a rooftop bar to enjoy some afternoon snacks and drinks. We enjoyed hummus and olives while admiring the Acropolis off in the distance. After a long day of travel, the exhaustion from the past two weeks began to catch up with us. We knew the next day was going to be just as busy, so we were excited to return to the hotel, slip into those comfy robes, and indulge in room service! It was exactly what we needed to recharge.

Day 15: Athens, Greece - The Ultimate Tourist Day

Fueled by the delicious breakfast at Tudor Hall Restaurant in our hotel, we eagerly anticipated our full-day private tour of Athens. With only one day to soak in the wonders of this ancient city, we knew that this Athens Full Day Private Tour was the perfect way to ensure we visited all the iconic sites on our list!

As we wound our way through the bustling city streets, our enthusiastic tour guide began sharing captivating stories about Athens' rich history. Before we knew it, we arrived at the magnificent Acropolis. The moment we started our ascent towards the Parthenon, we were left in awe. Standing there, surrounded by such monumental history, we couldn't help but marvel at how this incredible structure was built. The patience and dedication of the people from that era truly seemed unmatched!

We took our time exploring every inch of the Acropolis, pausing frequently to capture memories in photos—of each other, the breathtaking views, and even offering to help fellow travelers document their experiences. Each snapshot was a reminder of the beauty and significance of this historic site, making our day in Athens all the more memorable.

Tip: If you don't book a tour for Athens, start your day here! It gets crowded quickly and equally as hot!

As we made our way back down the Acropolis, the excitement was palpable. We met our guide, and it felt like reuniting with an old friend. We eagerly shared everything we had seen, and he, in turn, enriched our experience with fascinating tales from history. We were absolutely soaking it up, each story adding another layer to our adventure!

Next up, Ancient Agora of Athens. We explored the birthplace of democracy for an hour or so, seeing Temple of Hephaestus, Museum of the Ancient Agora and Plateia Syntagmatos. We saw exhibition features from the excavations of the American School of Classical Studies in the Ancient Agora dating from the Neolithic era until the Post-Byzantine times.

On our way to the changing of the guards, we made a memorable stop at the Panathenaic Stadium. Standing there, surrounded by the echoes of Olympic history, we couldn't help but envision ourselves as athletes competing back in 776 BC during the very first Olympics. The excitement was palpable as we imagined the thrill of the crowd and the spirit of competition.

As we continued our journey, we drove past the Tomba Del Milite Ignoto, a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made for our freedom. The significance of the site added a reflective moment to our day.

With some extra time before the changing of the guards, we decided to explore the National Garden, a hidden oasis nestled in the heart of Athens. The lush greenery and serene pathways provided a beautiful contrast to the bustling city around us. It was the perfect spot to unwind and soak in the beauty of nature amidst our adventures.

The changing of the guards at the Presidential Palace was an event that truly captivated us, reminiscent of the iconic ceremony at Buckingham Palace. While it may not draw the same large crowds, we found ourselves enchanted by the spectacle. Every hour on the hour, the guards would perform their duties with an impressive level of precision that was a joy to witness. As we stood in the shade, the atmosphere felt electric. The meticulous movements of the guards were not just a display of duty; they were an art form in their own right. It was a moment that left a lasting impression on us, a blend of history and tradition that we were fortunate to experience firsthand.

Next up was our journey to Mount Lycabettus, where we were eager to see Athens from a different perspective. On our way, we passed by iconic landmarks such as the Propylaea, Erectheion, Tempio Di Athena Nike, and Tempio Di Zeus Olimpio. We were fortunate enough to stop at some of these locations for photos, each snapshot a memory etched in time. Learning about each landmark as we wound our way through the vibrant streets of Athens made the experience even more special.

Once we reached Mount Lycabettus, the highest point in Athens, we were greeted with a breathtaking panoramic view of the city. It was a moment of awe as we took in the sprawling landscape below. Our guide pointed out various locations, sharing insights about daily life in Athens that made the city feel more alive and connected to us. It was a perfect culmination of our exploration, leaving us with a deeper appreciation for this remarkable city.

After a morning filled with exploration, we had built up quite an appetite and couldn't wait for lunch in the charming neighborhood of Koukaki. The anticipation was palpable as we made our way to the restaurant, where lunch and beverages were included with our tour.

As we settled into our seats outdoors, we enjoyed the warm atmosphere, watching the locals come and go, each with their own story. The vibrant energy of the neighborhood made our meal even more enjoyable, and we felt truly immersed in the culture around us.

Because we started our tour early, we wrapped up our adventures by early afternoon. Our tour guide kindly dropped us off at the Acropolis Museum, where we were eager to delve into its treasures. As we walked through the galleries, we couldn't help but admire the extensive collection that spans the Archaic and Roman periods. Each exhibit told a story, and we felt a deep connection to the history that surrounded us. It was an easy walk back to our hotel to rest and refresh before dinner!

For the last meal of our trip, we chose The Tudor Hall Restaurant, where we were treated to breathtaking views of Athens, featuring the iconic Acropolis. The ambiance was truly magical, making it the perfect setting for our final night. The Michelin-awarded Executive Chef crafted contemporary cuisine with a modern twist, elevating our dining experience and adding to the beauty of our last night on our honeymoon! Also, it is conviently located in The King George.

Day 16: Athens, Greece and Departure Day

We woke up early, the soft light filtering through the curtains as we packed our bags one last time. The anticipation of returning to Tudor Hall Restaurant for breakfast filled us with warmth. It was our final meal with a breathtaking view, and we wanted to savor every moment. As we made our way to the National Archaeological Museum, a treasure trove of artifacts from across Greece, spanning from prehistory to late antiquity, we felt a mix of excitement and nostalgia.

After soaking in the rich history, we returned to the hotel, where we gathered our suitcases, each one filled with memories of our adventures. Driving to the airport was a bittersweet experience; the thrill of going home mingled with the sadness of leaving such a beautiful city behind. Two weeks is a long time to be away, yet as we reminisced about our explorations, laughter and joy bubbled up within us, reminding us of the incredible journey we had just undertaken.
