Travel Through the Seasons of Life

Every type of travel has its time and place for the different seasons of life. Reflecting on my own journey, I remember when I was in college, studying abroad, I stuffed my Northface backpack as full as possible, eager to catch the train to the next experience as easily as possible. My nights were spent in bustling hostels, sharing stories with fellow travelers, and my meals consisted of delicious street food that was both affordable and adventurous.

As I transitioned into my mid to late 20s, my travel style began to evolve. I found myself opting for hotels instead of hostels, savoring the comfort and privacy they offered. If I was fortunate, a parent would generously share their hotel points, allowing me to upgrade my stay from a low budget hotel on the outskirts of a city to a nicer hotel closer to city center . My approach to flights also changed; in college, I would scour for the cheapest options, even if it meant enduring an extra layover or inconvenient departure and arrival times. In my 20's that transitioned to an economy seat on the most convenient travel times. Each choice reflected where I was in life, balancing adventure with the comforts I had come to appreciate.

Today, as I navigate my 30s with a fulfilling job, a dual-income household, and no kids, I find myself resonating deeply with the concept of a "middle traveler." This term was unfamiliar to me until 2024, but it perfectly captures my travel philosophy. While some may define it differently, to me, being a middle traveler is all about blending budget-conscious choices with a sprinkle of luxury. It’s about striking that perfect balance—embracing the joy of travel without breaking the bank.

Not every stay can be at a 5-Star hotel, and not every meal can be enjoyed at a Michelin Star restaurant. Similarly, not every tour needs to be private. I cherish the moments where I can indulge in a little luxury while still being mindful of my budget. I see my travel approach as akin to my wardrobe. Just as I love mixing an affordable Amazon set with a designer accessory, I enjoy curating my travel experiences to reflect a blend of comfort and elegance. Whether it’s booking a cozy boutique hotel or savoring a delicious meal at a local eatery, I seek out those unique experiences that make my travels memorable.

In this way, I wholeheartedly embrace my identity as a middle traveler, celebrating the art of balance in every itinerary I embark upon. I find joy in being budget-conscious, yet I'm not afraid to splurge for comfort when the moment calls for it. While I enjoy the finer things in life, I also make it a point to do thorough research to discover how I can save some money and stay within my budget range.

If this resonates with you, then welcome! Throughout my blog posts, I share insights on how to incorporate splurges into various itineraries, providing honest feedback on whether each splurge was truly worth it and where I wish I would have splurged instead of taking the most economical path. Let’s explore the world together, balancing luxury and budget-friendly adventures!
